Federal Glass Company Advertisements
Federal Glass Company was founded in 1900, in Columbus Ohio. The company began operations making salt & pepper shakers, goblets, measuring cups, and jars for processed foods. By the 1920s Federal was making tableware, with patterns including "Madrid," "Colonial Fluted," "Normandie," "Mayfair," "Raindrops," "Parrot," "Georgian" or "Lovebirds," and "Diana" to name a few. The "Park Avenue" pattern was made from 1941 through to the 1970s.
For the US Bicentennial in 1976, Federal reintroduced the "Madrid" pattern under the name "Recollection" glassware. They differentiated the 1976 version from the original "Madrid" by adding the number "76" to the mold for each piece. Federal Glass Company finally closed in 1980. The "Madrid" molds were sold to Indiana Glass Company, which continued to produce the "Recollection" glassware, but Indiana removed the "76" from the molds, making it difficult to tell the old "Madrid" in amber from the Indiana production of the 80s.
