1979 Convention - Orlando, Florida
The fifth Annual NDGA Convention was held in Orlando, Florida, on July 6-8, 1979. The Chairman of the Convention was Mark Nye, with Ada Wilson acting as the NDGA Coordinator. The Convention was sponsored by the South Florida Depression Glass Club. Six major Depression Glass Clubs in Florida cooperated to provide the displays. Saturday night there was a dinner and dance, preceded by a short reception.
Seminars and Speakers
There were six seminars presented at the Orlando Convention. The speakers and their topics were:
- Glass Animals, A to Z - Evelyn Zemel
- Crystal Lady (film) - National Cambridge Collectors
- Akro Agate - Gene Loveland
- Paden City Glass - Jerry Barnett
- Caprice - Mark Nye
- Methods of Etching - L. Brandt
The following authors were present as special guests of the NDGA:

Glass and Pottery Displays
The program for this Convention tells us that there were a number of displays, as listed below, but the program doesn't give credit to the folks who provided the displays. There are no photographs that we know of which show the displays at the Orlando NDGA Convention. If anyone has photographs from this event and would be willing to share them, please contact the Webmaster@NDGA.net.
- Adam to Windsor Patterned Depression Glass - all patterned pieces as found in the Hazel Marie Weatherman Book #1. An attempt was made to display a piece in each known color.
- Cambridge Colors - The South Florida Cambridge Study Group assembled a representative piece in each color available to them of the assortment of many Cambridge colors.
- Fostoria Colors - The South Florida Depression Glass Club has arranged a display of pieces in most of the colors produced by the Fostoria Glass Company.
- Caprice - From the personal collection of Mark Nye, a large display of the popular "Caprice" pattern by Cambridge.
- Keeping Cool in Color - A display of the beautiful ice bucket collection of Gail Baggett from Tampa, FL.
- Stems - A large display of stems from various manufacturers, provided by members of the South Florida Depression Glass Club.
List of Participating Dealers
Here is the list of the 33 dealers who set up to sell glass at the fifth Annual NDGA Convention in Orlando. Dealers came from as far north as New Hampshire and as far west as California. Quite a mix.
